Under the Sea..Again?

Found this that was suppose to go along with the rest of the "under the sea" theme paintings I did a while back. It was unfinish, so I quickly paint it over again and here it goes!

It's Time to shake off the rust and hit up to figure drawing again!

So I went to figure drawing at Palo Alto last night with Joe and Jose, I managed to blow up my tire, switch to a donut, did a vaule study, a portrait, and a block in, then got home all in one piece. What a good night huh!

All color are 20 min pose.

and during the break, I was doodling around and drew this dual!

have kinda lost focus lately...So I began to think why I start doing art in the first place. As I digged deep insinde myself, I remembered dragon balls. I remember how I used to copy drawings from the comic book when I was in preschool. So I did this drawing of Piccolo from my deepest memory to help me get back on track. It was fun trying to remember what Piccolo looks like as I draw. And it was fun trying to remember why I love art in the first place!

Jam Pack Summer 2011

These are the spedpainting I did over the summer. They are all painted in one hour or less. Not everything are finished to the stage that I would like them to, but hey, when time is up, its up! On the left are painting I did for the "One Environment A Day" blog our recent grad, Jeff Mazon created to keep us fire up during the break. They are all original expect the last one I used a photo reference cuz I was finally running dry.... Everything else after the first column are screen studies and two of the paintings are master copy of another artist for my attend to play with color. Again, Not every painting is post worthy, but they show my progress and serve as a reminder for mistakes I should avoid.

It's been a crazy long summer trying to improve on my painting skill and finish up a short film, but in the end, the reward is much greater then the suffering I endured.

use reference to quickly paint the envirnment but add a touch of my own color. not sure if it's working or not but at least it was easier than painting out of my head.

Trying to get back to the game, so far photoshop is been very kind, each the speed painting is done under a hour and it's getting easier and faster each time. My goal is be able to do it for under 30 min. Lets do this!!!

First Day at School

I've been to many different schools since I moved around a lot. I've always hated the first day at school being a new kid on the block and knowing no one at all. I've always thought people were looking at me weird and stuff and it was the worst feeling in the world one can think of. It gets better as I started attending different colleges around the states. However, I still hated the first day of school....... Well, as of the art work, I have been trying different ways and style of digital paintings. I had a lot of fun looking at all the Viz Dev works by my friends and wished I have take the class myself. So I try to do things on my own to keep my skill up and it is fun learning experience since there is no pressure. DreamWorks artist, Goro's visit today was amazing, so I tried to apply some of his teaching in this painting as well. enough said, Lets try to make it impossible possible! oie

just a couple digi paint when I was sitting around. each is about 20 to 30 mins. had a blast doing it. Trying to understanding light and color is what I am working hard on right now. How far can I push it, and how warm/cool can I make it to be? it has be the hardest thing for me so far but I'm working to get better.

I still remember back in the day when John Clapp told us how to draw contour, how to train our eyes to see. For a while, I have deviant away from that a bit and got cought on trying to please myself and others. I have simply forgot that contour line is honest line. How stupid was I huh!?

I'm no Viz Dev artist, and I'm no good at color, which give me more reason to continue to be better at these areas. I enjoy doing digital figure painting and had tons of fun. Up untill now I have always work with layers and relying on my lineworks. But now I'm starting to Paint as if I would paint traditionally and work with limited layers to force myself to commit to my drawing. it actually have help me reduce time and show more life and guesture. Still lots to learn but I like where I'm going with this.

Gary Soto's Kitchen

This project is based on Gary Soto's short sotry "The Haircut." It is a big learning expirence for me to paint digitaly in photoshop. As I spend more time on it, it becomes faster and faster. However, there are lots of mistakes in the early development stage that needs to be fix! I couldn't save a bad drawing with all the tones and colors. but well, It's time to move on!
